Hindu Temple of Rochester (HTOR) is a members owned, volunteer-driven, community-supported, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Temple is organized and operates in accordance to the member approved constitution.
Members nominate and elect the Office Bearers containing two separate and connected bodies namely (a) the Board of Trustees and (b) Executive Council with their specified roles and responsibilities:
(a) Board of Trustees (BOT) who shall have the general responsibility to oversee the management of the property of the Temple, any major expansions, addition of Priest, and oversee general and legally required affairs, subject to applicable law and in accordance with the purposes and limitations set forth in the Certificate of Incorporation and in this Constitution. The other responsibilities for the Board of trustees include the ones outlined in this constitution and temple’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
(b) Executive Council (EC) who has general responsibility to manage and control the day-to-day affairs of the temple which include but not limited to finances, human resources, membership, facility maintenance, religious and cultural affairs, educational services, devotee communications, kitchen food, hall rental, donation/fee structure and devotee needs and expectations. The other responsibilities for the Executive Council members include the ones outlined in this constitution and temple’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). President and Treasurer will also serve as Board of trustees and are the connection between the 2 bodies to assure effective communication and avoiding of redundancy.
